Release: Time's ticking, Willis
06 October 2026
The first Leaders Debate of the campaign is today, and National still won’t say what it will cut.
“Show us your plan,” Labour MP Ginny Andersen said.
“Nicola Willis is spending her days picking through Labour’s numbers, making up her own and demanding answers, while keeping National’s plan hidden from Kiwis.
“As Finance Minister she’s had the advice of the Treasury, and the PREFU for much longer than the Opposition. Why is she taking so long to tell New Zealanders what services she’ll cut?
“We know they’ve had a hiring freeze for our health system, hiring only 54 additional nurses – will National turn their sights to education next?
“What else is on the chopping block? Teachers? Teacher aides? Classroom support? School property?
“National can’t keep attacking Labour’s plan while having nothing to show of their own.
“New Zealand has already paid the price for National’s economic mismanagement and cuts. They have a right to know how much more National plans to take away.
“Labour has put our numbers on the table. National needs come clean to voters and do the same.
“Time’s ticking. Release your fiscal plan so Kiwis can see what you're going to cut next,” Ginny Andersen said.
