Release: What's on Luxon's sell-off list?
15 September 2026
Fifty-three days from the election, Christopher Luxon still won't tell New Zealanders which of their assets he plans to flog off.
"In 2023 Luxon promised no asset sales. He lied,” Labour finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.
“Luxon spectacularly backtracked on his promise, saying 'owning everything we own forever isn't the right thing to do.’
"He should name every asset on his list before election day. If he won't, we can only assume the worst.
"New Zealanders have a right to know what's on the chopping block under Christopher Luxon’s government.
“Is it Kiwibank, the biggest New Zealand owned bank in the market? Will he sell the power companies and drive up your power bills up even more? Or will he sell our national airline, Air New Zealand, and leave our regions stranded? Will he try sell our conservation land again? He only backed off when he got caught.
"Luxon is doing this because he's failed to grow the economy, another broken promise. Tens of thousands of Kiwis are out of work. Prices are through the roof, and more people are doing it tough.
"When you sell off our public assets you lose them forever, and our kids end up paying for it later.
"But that's National. More cuts. More chaos. Higher prices.
"Labour will keep our assets in Kiwi hands and back Kiwis to get ahead. New Zealand can't afford another three years of National,” Barbara Edmonds said.
